Apathy very much seems to be one way people excuse themselves from getting involved in societies issues. When I was young and naive, often I was ignorant to much because I was just trying to survive within my small circle of influence. Was it apathy? To some aspect probably yes, I hate to admit. As I`ve matured in age and knowledge people who show positivity or activism toward societal issues are met with pessimism and resistance from the status quo.
In fact, I had read a post from someone today who I often read touching on optimism being annoying for others we may label toxic. One comment was that they felt the optimist to be in denial of trauma they burry in said optimism.
I was just sitting down to write about how I wrestled with the very topic earlier. I did not comment because such comment would stem from initial reaction.
